Rotary District Governor (DG) – District 7980

One year (July 1 – June 30), with preparation and transition responsibilities before and after the term.

Job Description Overview

The District Governor is expected to lead with integrity, collaboration, accountability, and respect, while modeling strong communication and Rotary values.  The DG is the chief officer of Rotary International in District 7980.  The DG provides leadership, guidance, and inspiration to Rotary clubs across the district, ensuring continuity, collaboration, and effective club support.

The District Governor’s primary responsibility is to strengthen clubs, support district leadership, and encourage contributions and other support for The Rotary Foundation.


Key Responsibilities

Club & Membership Leadership

  • Strengthen existing clubs, assist struggling clubs, and support the organization of new clubs.
  • Promote membership growth, engagement, and retention.

Rotary Foundation & Financial Stewardship

  • Encourage contributions and other support for The Rotary Foundation.
  • Prepare the district budget, provide an annual financial report, and help administer District Designated Funds (DDF).
  • Complete the required online district qualification and compliance requirements.

District Leadership & Governance

  • Work closely with the governor-elect and district leadership team to ensure continuity.
  • Supervise district nominations and elections in accordance with Rotary policies.
  • Transfer district files, records, and institutional knowledge to the governor-elect.

Training, Meetings & Events

  • Plan for and preside at the District Conference.
  • Conduct and support district meetings, including training assemblies and leadership events.
  • Assist the Presidents-Elect Learning Seminar (PELS) and the District Learning Assembly.

Club Visits, Public Image & Communication

  • Conduct official visits to clubs to support leadership, service, and Rotary priorities.
  • Recognize outstanding Rotarians.
  • Promote a positive public image of Rotary and serve as the district's spokesperson.
  • Issue regular communications to clubs.

Youth Protection

  • Promote and support a safe, inclusive environment for youth participants in Rotary programs. 

  • Ensure required background checks are completed for all district and club leaders with direct involvement with youth

  • Encourage strong youth-focused programs that enrich leadership, character, and personal development, including RYLA, the Four-Way Speech Contest, and Interact.

  • Support clubs in understanding and following Rotary youth protection policies and best practices.
